The same house, another one inside
In the old town of Maó, Odisea leaves the façade where it was —its proportions, its mouldings, the Menorcan green of the joinery— and remakes the whole house behind it. Lime of living texture, terracotta laid in herringbone, pine and oak from floor to ceiling, brushed brass, linen. Every floor has its opening to the air, a courtyard or a terrace, and the house breathes from the bottom up.

Four floors and a private pool above the rooftops
Four levels and close to 200 m², laid out without crowding. On the ground floor, the living room with its built-in fireplace, the kitchen open to the dining area, the cloakroom and the laundry, all giving onto the rear courtyard. The first floor gathers the house's three bedrooms —a suite with its own bathroom, a double, and the bunk room built into the fabric of the house, measured to whoever will use it— plus a separate bathroom. The second floor belongs to the main suite alone, and there is what you do not expect of a village house: you step from the bedroom onto a covered porch and a pool lined in green mosaic. The stair carries on to the roof terrace, and Maó is left below. Under everything, a generous basement for a wine cellar. Ducted air-source climate control, neither seen nor heard.

Gallery
The old town of Maó, on foot
The harbour, the Mercat del Peix and the Teatro Principal, all on foot from the front door. A short walk away are the Cristine Bedfor hotel, the restaurants El Romero and El Rais, and the small boutique guest houses that have opened one by one in the old merchant houses of the centre. Across the water, on the Illa del Rei, the Hauser & Wirth gallery brought Maó a public that used not to stop here. It is the island's capital, and its natural harbour —the largest in the Mediterranean— gives it a life that does not depend on August. The airport is ten minutes away.
